Barossa Valley

We have finally arrived in the beautiful Barossa Valley - this place is beautiful and soooooo big (Margaret River and the Swan Valley are tiny compared to this place)! We are staying in a caravan park in Tanunda (and relaxing with a nice swimming pool, bouncy pillow and playground to keep Olivia happy)! The caravan park is set amongst a beautiful setting of trees and grass – all lush and green compared to what we have been seeing the last week and a bit!

Today was our day for exploring the Barossa Valley! We started off with a yummy breakfast at a cute cafe in Tanunda (I had a bacon and egg pie with delicious tomato chutney, Ryan had a Penini with scrambled eggs, bacon and tomato chutney and Olivia had a croissant with apricot jam – oh and I had two cups of vanilla chai latte and Ryan had a pot of Tea) – a great way to start the day off!

We then took a drive to a lookout overlooking the Barossa Valley - wow the views were awesome! As far as the eye could see were the vineyards – all neatly in a row! As most wineries and places don’t open till 10.30 we drove around and had a look at some of the beautiful scenery and history in the surrounding towns (these towns have gorgeous old houses – all neatly kept as if they had just been built – such character.

From there we went to Nuriootpa to visit Maggie Beer’s Farm Shop! I love her show – ‘The Cook and the Chef’ on ABC – so I insisted to poor Ryan that we just had to visit her farm shop – so glad that we did - we had so many tastings of pate’s to chutney’s, jams, dukkah and sauces – came home with some yummy pomegranate and raspberry jam and some dukkah!

We then visited a little cheese shop in Angaston and bought some yummy cheeses (which we will be having with our wine and dukkah tonight)!

Just before lunch we visited Grant Burge Barossa Vineyard Winery – where we purchased most of our wines (about 15 bottles – which we are having sent over to us in Warnbro instead of us trying to take them back in the caravan)!

For lunch we decided to pop into Jacob’s Creek Winery (very well known winery) and had a very yummy lunch overlooking their beautiful gardens! Wow this place was hugh – and all their vineyards are scattered throughout the Barossa Valley – depending on the grapes as to what soil they grow best in as to where they are located – wherever you drive you are bound to see one of their signs! We tried some of their wines – but I was not overly impressed (except the moscato which was yummy – and I had this one with my lunch)!

After lunch (well we left Jacob’s Creek about 3pm) we decided to do one more stop and that was to the Lyndoch Lavender Farm! Bought some Lavender item to take back home!

Now here we are relaxing – Olivia is in bed – I’m having a cup of coffee and Ryan is having a cup of tea! The weather sure has cooled down for the past two days compared to in Port Pirie – we are having nice cool nights which is helping us to have a good night’s sleep!

Tomorrow we finally head to Adelaide (about 90kms from the Barossa Valley)!

Below are the many photos I’ve taken today – enjoy xx
